Innovative class attendance taking

innovative-class-attendance-taking

A teacher from Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Texas, has taught of a fun new way to evaluate class attendance. The way he does it is easy. Just greet each student with an individually designed handshake or a series of moves.

By doing this, Dr. Trevor Boffone starts his Spanish classes with a smile on his face. He not only lifts the spirits of his students but also notes who is present and who is absent.

Mr. Boffone’s fun way of starting classes and marking class attendance has made him somewhat of a social media star. In a recent Instagram post, Mr. Boffone showed off his and his students’ dance skills.

Another trick up the Spanish teachers’ sleeve is the employment of Dubsmash, a mobile phone application, which allows users to sing along to popular songs. According to him, using Dubsmash has made Spanish classes more enjoyable for students.

Class attendance and social media

Technology and social media are increasingly entering classrooms all over the world, and Mr. Boffone’s class attendance taking methods are only one example.
Teenagers are spending a big chunk of their free time on social media, and they find it very attractive when teachers are keeping up with the latest online trends. Not only that, but teachers who are aware of the developments in social media and the online world can better understand their students’ lifestyles.
A familiarization with social media and online trends can significantly help teachers in bettering their reach in the classroom. Additionally, social media is increasingly entering administration as well, as more educational institutions have Facebook and Instagram pages, which are used to inform the public on recent events and announcements.
Mr. Boffone gives an excellent example of how to incorporate modern-day technology and applications in the classroom. He has now started giving other teachers tips and advice on how they can too include such interactive moments in their lessons.
