60percent+ UK universities slip in rankings

Two third of British Universities Slip in new rankings

Fewer UK universities made it into the top 200 this year compared to 12 months ago with Newcastle Universities dropping out of the universities top 200 rankings leaving the total number of UK Universities being 28.
In the past 12 months, two in three British universities in the top 200 best universities have dropped their ranking. The slip was however unsurprising and experts have stated that this will only get worse because of the looming Brexit. Cambridge University, for example, lost its second place to California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Imperial College London was replaced by the University of Chicago in a ninth-place finish.
British Universities in the past have always depended on tapping the top talents from the global market. This, however, is about to change due to the growing concern about Brexit. Continue withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the international stage is setting a stage where it will lose its power in being a world leader in education consequently losing its top echelons in the rankings.

178 US universities still lead

Fewer UK universities made it into the top 200 this year compared to 12 months ago. Newcastle University dropped out of the universities top 200 ranking leaving the total number of UK Universities being 28.
Japan has overtaken the UK in the number of representations from last year and it has been able to extend its figures to 110 universities.

Phil Baty, chief knowledge officer at The Higher Education (THE) rankings says, “If the UK withdraws from the international stage its position in the upper echelons of the rankings will suffer.” This outlook from an expert in this industry spells doom for UK higher education and could only mean that drastic changes in policymaking has to be taken to save face of the UK Universities that have been hurt by Brexit.

In conclusion, the study notes that the United States still leads the world in the number of prestigious universities ranked which is 173 in total. It also has the most Universities in the top 200 which totals a whooping 60 universities.
